Steve Jobs, co-founder of Apple Computer, died one week ago today at age 56. He left us too young, a victim of a rare form of pancreatic cancer and the complications from its treatment over the last seven years. Those in the Mac user community have been hard hit by the news, and people all around the world have found creative ways to express their sense of loss. Outside Apple Retail Stores everywhere, people have set up makeshift shrines to the late visionary, complete with votive candles, small technological displays, flowers, cards, and sticky notes. When any community loses someone it perceives as central to its cohesiveness, it can be consoling to find ways to come together and share in mourning. How are Apple fans handling the news of Steve Jobs’ death?

In answer to that question, we take you to this special coverage from Brian Tong of Cnet, host of The Apple Byte. A true Mac lover, Tong’s special report helps bring the community together by showing ways in which people have joined forces to celebrate the life of Steve Jobs, and to let him go.

Nothing brings people together like TV. It’s not hard to find people around you who watch the same shows as you, and it’s a great way to bring people together. Nothing is better than sharing your love and excitement for a television show with people who feel the same way. TV is a great way to get your neighborhood together on any day of the week to munch on some snacks and watch their favorite tv shows. The following is advice for hosting your very own TV nights in your home or community center.

Find the Right TV Shows

Decide on what kind of TV night you want to have and pick the shows appropriately. If you want it to be like a Mom’s Night Out, then it’s a great idea to pick shows that are a little more dramatic, like Desperate Housewives or Grey’s Anatomy. If you want to host a teenage TV night for your son or daughter’s friends, check ABC family for some great shows that don’t run late into the evening. You can also do sports for the man in y our life. Be sure to check your local television or dish network channels guide for the times and dates of the nights you plan to host.

Invite Your Guests A Week Before

Be sure to send out your invites about a week before. Facebook Invites are a great way to inform your friends and family of the date and time.

Provide Lots of Yummy Snacks and Drinks

It might be fun to do a theme based around the TV show you’re watching that night. The internet is full of great snack and drink ideas, if you’re short on creativity. Also, don’t be afraid to just take the simple route and run to the store and purchase chips, salsa, cookies, and soda. Your guest will be happy with whatever you have to offer! Check out this great Youtube video by Parents.com for healthy snack ideas.

Have FUN!

Enjoy the company. Once the show is over, have everyone stay for a couple minutes afterwards to talk about it. This a great way to get to know your neighbors and others in your community. TV Night is a blast!

So, what can you expect from Google+? Let’s take a look at this infographic that weighs the pros and cons of both Google+ and Facebook. This might help you decide which platform you want to use to launch your community into the social networks. Click to expand:

Knowing what time it is, is always something that is nice to know. That is why there are so many men’s watches out there to choose from. There are so many things to know about men’s watches as you go to buy them for a man you know and appreciate. So, keep reading as you go to learn all there is to know.

Now, for most men, the thing to understand is that they can never have too many watches. Just as women like to change necklaces or so forth, men like to change their watches. They might have two. They might have one that they wear with jeans. Then, they might have one that they wear with a suit and tie. Normally, when they wear one with a suit and tie, they wear one that has a link band.

You might not know it when you are shopping for these watches, but there are many different types of them out there. There are some that have specific movement such as quartz watch movement and jewel movement, much like Blum Lux watches. Then, there are chronograph watches, mechanical watches, automatic watches, and perpetual calendar watches.

They even have themes which when you go about to buy a men’s watch, you might want to know if this man wants a theme. There are quite a few themes when looking at them. Some of those consist of: Military watches, diving watches, and sailing watches just to name a few of them.

There are men who not only love watches, but collect them. There are some that are heirlooms and when you look at the value of these, you might be quite shocked to find the value of them. One of those brands of watches are Omega Watches.

If you don’t have a theme on the watch, you will find some designed to show off the things that this man seems to enjoy. We have seen some that have the logo of a sports team that they like. There are some fishing ones. There are some that have the logo of the branch of military served. As you can see, when you pick a watch, it might display things that tell people who look at their watch a bit about who they are and what they like. This is why they make great gifts because if you don’t know what sort of watch they want, if they don’t have the sport team watch, then they would be incomplete and not a true fan after all.

They range in price. You can walk into a retail store and get a cheap waterproof watch rather cheap. Some do this as they might work in a job where they scratch them all to heck. Then there are some in the jewelry store where it’s more about quality, look, feel, and value where you pay a generous amount of money. Here are a few things you should understand about men’s watches. When you are choosing for a man you value, love, and trust, then you need to find what is best for him. Look at his style and you will be able to tell which watch will suit him best.

Even in the world of online marketing, Facebook has become a big player in helping people get noticed and spreading the word in organic channels like word of mouth, natural linking between people who already know each other, and emailing and other forms of media “sharing” through social media channels. There is no limit to what someone with a great imagination could do using Facebook. So, without further ado, on with the infographic. Enjoy.

There are numerous types of communities. The actual place or area where we live is one. Think about it though, there are online communities, community organizations, and much more. The word community is used quite often to discribe a group of people with like minded views, interests, opinions, or feelings. What does the word community really mean though? Have you taken the time to think about it? In the world that we are living in today, community is a very important thing, but are we living like it is? Is you community a place that you love and care about, and do you show others how much your care? I took some time to ask people both in my physical community, the area which I live, and also online what the word community means to them to see just what it means to us. Here are some of the answers.

“To me, a community is a group of people that care about each other. People who take the time to know their neighbors, you know, find out who the people are that live around them.” Jannah W.

“I love the idea of a community where I feel safe. I want to be able to walk around safely and even know who all the other people that I am passing are. I want to know their names and what they do. Like in movies and old TV shows…I think it makes communities stronger when people know each other and feel good around the other residents.” Shelia H.

“Community…it’s a place where you belong. No matter what you do for a living, how much money you have, what you like to do on the weekends, you still feel at ease and a sense of belonging.” James Y.

“LOL! Community is that sense of belonging among people with common cultural features and goals.” Mel Mc.

“A community is involved, caring, and has goals that you want to stand behind.” Steve P.

There were many other incredible posts and answers to the question, “What does the word community mean to you?” But, what it all came down to really was having a feeling of belonging. So many people long to belong to a community, and know who it is that they belong with. It seems like it is very important to people that we all take the time in our communities to know each other and reach out to each other. So, let’s do just that. Take the time to find out more about a person in your community. Go to community functions or events, and participate. The more involved you get, the more you’ll feel like you belong. Also, don’t be afraid to explore more international channels of communities. A community doesn’t just have to be those closest to you.

It is so important that as people we take the time and energy to reach out to the fellow people in our community. Often, it is easy to think that we already help out by doing things like donating to goodwill, helping your neighbor install their direct tv equipment, and helping with a community event every once and a while. Doing those things is quite respectable, but is there something more you could do? What about your place of worship? As a body, are you all reaching out to your community? I ask this question to a lot of churches. The most typical response is that they are giving to missionaries and churches in locations far from the community where they are located. Again, that is so wonderful, but what about the community where the church is located? There are so many reasons for a church to donate time, efforts, and money to the local community.

Spread the Gospel. When your church goes out into the community to collect food for those in need, or raise money for a local project or organization’ you will more than likely be in communication with people in the community that have not heard about the love of Jesus Christ. Some people have heard it, but may want to know more. This allows you and your church to spread the word. You can give encouragement and let people know that you care. There might even be people new to the community looking for a new church.

Invite people to join. Being around all types of people from outside of your church means that you have the chance to invite new people to come by for a service. Inviting people is a great way to show that you care. Maybe there are people who want to come to your church just because they really appreciate all that you are doing for the community, and who knows, these visitors may end up becoming a part of the church family.

Be God’s hands and feet. Jesus did not shun the poor and the people that needed help, and neither should the church. Churches need to reach out, be the hands and feet of God, and show love and compassion to those surrounding them.

Community involvement and functions seem to be on the rise. Many people are trying to help create a strong community in the areas that they live. The community events that people are planning are not necessarily to raise money either, there is more to a community than just fundraising together. There is a big need for communities to get together on occasion and celebrate where they are from and where they are going. The ties that are formed and built upon during community events means a lot to the residents of a community. One of the best events that a community can plan is an event that involves local musicians.

Local musicians all need the support of the community. Without play on popular music dirct tv channels, it’s hard to get a break in the music industry. Anyone who sings, plays an instrument, or helps a band out knows that music is not a job, but a passion. It is so vital that as a community the local musician’s passions are supported. Musicians love having the opportunity to perform and show their love and their talents. What better place than in the community where they live to do so.

Communities are supporting local musicians by featuring free concerts in parks and at street fairs. At these concerts, residents of all ages can enjoy music, food, and other exciting activities that have been planned. The community comes together to listen to good music and have great fun. By bringing people together through music, the community in turn grows stronger. People can meet other residents and have discussions about the community. Ideas on different functions or even community issues can be discussed, and that helps everyone in the area to feel like they have a voice that counts. People can also network with others to find jobs, give encouragement, and just make new friends.

If you would like to start planning an event for your community, so all of the people can get together for some fun and activities, then start with looking for local bands to perform. When you feature a local band as your event’s headline, then the word about the event will spread faster, and more people will show up to the event and spend some time with all the community citizens.
